Emilie takes gold at winter nationals

QUEBEC CITY-Olympic medallist Emilie Heymans reached a milestone with her win at the Winter Nationals diving competition.

Émilie reached a milestone in her first competition since the 2004 Olympics totaling 498.75 points for her 20th career senior national title. Myriam Boileau , was second and Roseline Filion third.

“It wasn’t an extraordinary performance but I didn’t expect to do much better than this at this point,” said Heymans. “My goal here was just to qualify for the team for the Grand Prix’s this spring. I only started training in December and I haven’t had much time to work on my optionals.”

Last season, Émilie was a workhorse on the Canadian team competing on three and 10-metres in both the individual and synchro events. This year she is focusing solely on tower. She has also returned to school this year and studying fashion marketing.
