FINA World Cup
CHANGSHU, China - Emilie won Canada's second medal, Thursday, at the FINA World Cup of Diving competition, finishing in third place in the women’s 10M tower event.
Jia Tong of China took first place with 385.30 points, while her team-mate Lao Lishi finished second with 379.85 points. Emilie, the 2003 World Champion, finished in third place with 376.35 points.
<< Certainly I'm disappointed with the result. To finish 8 points shy of gold and 3 points from silver is very frustrating. However, I am very satisfied with my performance in the final. Knowing that the day was going to be a long one, I held back a little in the preliminaries, giving myself a bit of a scare finishing in 11th place among the 12 divers who qualified for the semi final. I dove somewhat better in the semi final but, still, my performance could have been better. I headed into the final with an aggressive attitude, putting the previous events of the day to the back of my mind. I am not dissatisfied with my overall performance, and especially proud of my attitude throughout the whole challenge. >>
2005's World Champion, Laura Wilkinson, finished in fourth spot, while Marie-Eve Marleau of CAMO achieved a career-best performance, qualifying for the final and finishing in sixth position with 330.10 points.
Blythe and Emilie just missed being in the medals in the 3M synchro, finishing fourth, on the last day of the 15th FINA World Cup of Diving. The current world champions, Guo Jing Jing and Li Ting of China, were the winners with 334.80 points. Ariel Rittenhouse and Kelci Bryant from the United States finished in second spot with 306.30 points, while Heike Fischer and Ditte Kotzian from Germany placed third with 298.68 points.
<< Blyhte and I finished in 4th place. The competition was very tight....We could very well have placed second, the competition being decided by so few points. Our synchronism was good, but my entries could have been a little tidier. However, taking everything into consideration, it was very encouraging since this was only our second competition since the 2004 Athens’s games.>>
Emilie took advantage of her stay in China to participate in another competition in Shanghai. <<It was a competition by invitation only, with China competing against the rest of the world. The format was slightly unusual but very enjoyable. It was a mixed competition (male/female) and by teams, the men doing the 10M and the girls the 3M. The synchro and the individual events were inter-mixed. The types of dives were decided by draw, with the eliminations following directly after....As I said, quite unusual, but highly exciting!!! I am thrilled and quite proud of my performances in Shanghai: 361 points on the 3M and a 9.5 in my reversed and in excess of 300 points in synchro with Sharleen Stratton of Australia (the countries were inter-mixed as well).>>
